Shoulders and hips were similar to most modern quadrupeds. By the time this ancestor evolved into a full-fledged bat, the hips had changed in a way that had the hind legs coming out the side of the torso, much more similar to the anatomy of something like an alligator. This is awesome for flying, hunting and hanging upside down while you sleep… but was less than ideal for walking on all fours. This is why bats look awkward when walking, and they no longer do it as efficiently as their non-winged mammal cousins. They still can, and still do, but it’s no longer their go-to mode of locomotion. They evolved something better, and they have no complaints; as the rest of us mammals look on, in envy.
