New items are easier to sell. You don’t have to make new listings for an item, you just sell them and get more inventory. You don’t have to clean them or describe defects, because they’re new. Buying a large item for $200 and making $20 didn’t work for us. We had to rent a storage space to have enough room for these large items. Since they were large shipped them by UPS and they could occasionally be damaged. UPS would sometimes deny the claim. We would always refund our customer right away or ship them another one. If one of them was damaged, and the claim denied, we would have to sell 10 more to break even on that one. We still sell the used items because the profit margin is usually much higher and if the economy turns bad more people will be looking for something cheaper/used.

I got back into eBay selling full-time because I enjoy it. I made more money in construction work but I’m 50 now, I have aches and pain now that I didn’t use to have because I’ve worked hard most of my life. I want to still be able to move around, without pain, when I’m 80 so I’m trying to take better care of myself now. I was also getting burned out with construction work. I still stay active, to stay in shape, and you need to keep that in mind if you are spending a lot of time in front of the computer. We are in an area that has a low cost of living. That works great for making money online. If we were in a more expensive area it would be much more difficult to make enough money. Our home and vehicles are paid for as well, and that makes a big difference too. If your cost of living is high and/or you have a lot of debt you may need a regular paycheck until you can change that situation or eBay selling can be a side hustle for you.
