You stop being “you”, and you become 1 part of a TEAM… that team is known as a platoon, and you ain’t no better or worse than anyone else on that team. What the team does, you do. No excuses. You do what you’re told, when you’re told, and how you’re told to do it, and you do it NOW… not 5 seconds from now, not 5 minutes from now… but RIGHT NOW, and you do it FAST. If you choose to do something besides what you were told to do… you can expect some warm and loving attention from your Drill Instructors… who will ensure that you are made aware that you’re screwing up, and they WILL motivate you to stop screwing up and get with the program… even if it takes putting you in a state of mental and physical exhaustion and pain, to get you to change your ways. When I hit boot camp for the Navy in 1981 I wore civvies for about 2 hours. I arrived at Recruit Training Center Orlando at 1930 hours and the group I was in were put through the barber area and then issued temporary uniforms. Our civvies were washed, boxed, and stored with our names on them so they could be returned upon graduation.
