When I see someone dressed simply but in clean clothing, I think they are probably a person who values other things in life – helping others, academics, sports or some other extroverted activity. When I see someone dressed in classic, neat clothing that fits them well, is modest and not trendy (think Ann Taylor, Talbots, Ralph Lauren, Tommy Hilfiger style though it could actually have been purchased at a thrift store which is my favorite), I think they are probably educated, have good manners and an all around classy person who wants to appear confident and trustworthy. Do clothes tell you something about a person? Well, of course, they do! Nowadays, however, it doesn’t seem to matter much. Princes and paupers wear jeans! It was very important that you maintained your status, hence the Station master (who actually sported a bowler) or other manager wearing the correct hat for their standing in the Community.
