I had the unfortunate experience of coming face to face with the old school bully at, of all places, work. We had gone to school together all the way through, from Kindergarten to Graduation. He had just been hired as an entry level shipping clerk and was just leaving the HR office on his way back out to the warehouse. He came over and proceeded to tell me how wonderful his life was, how successful he was, how much money he had, etc.. He then asks me in a very snide way, “So what have you done with your life?” Like I had accomplished nothing in the 10 years since we last saw each other in high school. My simple answer was “Well you are standing in my office, please shut the door on your way out.” I’m not normally one to pull rank on someone, but this guy deserved it. The look on his face was priceless, and he did shut the door on his way out.

She hands me $4 and closes her window, expecting me to move on. She tells me that I gave her a $10 and is fairly adamant. When she begins to close her window I ask if I could speak to her manager. It’s late; it’s possible that I could have handed her a $10 rather than a $20, but I have a habit that I’ve fallen into because of a similar situation. The manager listens to my request for the extra ten, looks at the receipt and notes that the girl had put in $10 as the money submitted. The girl is looking annoyed and has the classic, “I told you so” look on her face. The cashier’s face is stuck on shock and awe as I’m given my correct change and an apology before driving on to the next window for my meal. I was leaving the checkout at a store and was counting my change when I turned and told the cashier “Excuse me, I think you made a mistake.” “OK then,” I said as I turned back around and headed for the door, “Just remember that tonight, when your till is $10.00 short!” There was (and possibly still is) a UK computer chain called “iStore.” They aren’t part of Apple, just picked a name that made it obvious what they specialised in.
