Now this benign system of address applies to “ladies,” too! My favorite film of all time is Psycho (1960) and has been for as long as I’ve loved cinema. I get that it’s a great movie and all – it might even be your favorite – but I would never in a million years show Jaws or Pulp Fiction to someone who’s never seen a movie, even though they’re two of my favorites and have both received substantial critical acclaim. Think about the first movie you ever watched. For most of us, it was probably a kid’s movie that introduced us to the concept of a “movie.” Now, I understand not wanting to show Alvin and the Chipmunks to some I don’t have a favorite shirt. I wear whichever one matches the trousers I’ve chosen to wear that day, which I rotate among at least 10.
