Put in a coin and your kid gets to ride in a robot that moves freely with no tether. Worlds away from the electronic rocking horses of my childhood. >>Do mall security check customers’ names and cards from the stores at the mall? What are the legal issues on this?

A friend of mine got banned from the mall last November (for a year). She was wondering if the mall can track debit cards or if security can recognize them? She definitely grew up from last year and is a better person now IOW, this friend was banned either due to thievery or causing a disruption. She was short-sighted and wants to violate the ban, which was likely given in lieu of criminal charges. Solution: Wait out the “sentence”, like an adult. If something is needed, meaning for warmth, not just fashion, then go to the thrift store that takes clothing donations. When your friend was banned from the mall her name was circulated to all of the stores. That list, in many malls, is updated every so often. Names drop off when the ban is completed. (Ain’t computers a wonderful thing!) So, Mall security may not catch your “friend”, What is more likely to happen is when your friend presents that debit card the store clerk will recognize the name. That’s when mall security will be called and criminal trespass charges filed. You will usually be given a trespass notice. If you come back, you can be arrested for trespassing. Malls are private property and security/management has full authority to ask you to leave. Absolutely. That shopping mall is owned by someone or some corporation. That entity has property rights and they can exercise them as they see fit as long as they are discriminating on the basis of past actions rather than race, class, gender, etc.
