It stays cold and wet long after the rest of the person is warm and dry. It’s causes terrible drag while swimming. It chaffs and gathers sand like crazy, grinding it against your tender parts. It keeps the person from tanning evenly and leaves unsightly tan lines that later poke out from clothing. And frankly, especially wet, it looks silly. Until just a little over a hundred years ago, there wasn’t any specialized clothing for swimming. When people swam or worked in the water, they either did so fully clothed (expensive and very uncomfortable), or most often, they simply removed their clothing and swam or worked naked. People seem to think we’ve always been as averse to nudity as we are now. Sorry folks, that’s a recent perversion. Until just a few generations ago, people were a lot more practical about it then they are now.
