I still remember when a kindergarten teacher decided to explain to her class (of which my granddaughter was a part) that there is no “Santa” and that Christmas is about “Jesus”. This was an adult injecting adult thinking where it didn’t belong I babysat a 3 year old transgender girl (born male). She was certain that she was a girl ever since she started talking and being more conscious and everything she did was “girly”. I had to change her once and put her pjs on so I had to change her underwear. I was well aware that she had a penis and I did this as naturally as possible, I obviously didn’t want to make her uncomfortable. As soon as I started changing her pants she got really nervous because I was going to see her penis, even though she was (is) a girl, I reassured her that everything was ok and I didn’t make a big deal about it; I’m sure she noticed this attitude because she was quickly relieved and I could read her a book as always. A few days later I understood how terrifies she was of rejection. How could a little kid feel such complex emotions at such a young age?
